Daring Baker #5 Cheesecake on a Stick

This month's challenge is brought to you by Elle, Deborah and the letter P. P as in precious. As in just too, too precious. Oh and T, for tedious. Seriously. Now you guys know I dig cute food, but this was a bit much, even for me. Of course prior to actually making these things this would have been brought to you by the letters E and C. As in exciting and clever. But that was then.

They are kinda cute though aren't they? I had to decorate them with some buttercream. There was NO butter in this recipe! I know, I know!

This is what happened when I got bored with the buttercream. And when one fell off the stick. And into my mouth.

Did I mention how many of these things there were? We were supposed to make 2 ounce sized pops. I'm not sure if that's weight ounces or volume ounces but either way my big scoop made them way too freakin' big. They just popped right off the sticks. So these are a little smaller, about golf ball sized. And there are lots of them. Lots and lots and lots. And another full pan still in the fridge. Though as the boy reminded me, "having lots of cheesecake isn't really a bad thing". Smart boy that one. Taught him everything he knows.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad recipe. I'm just not sure that taking a perfectly good cheese cake and mushing it into balls and impaling it on a stick and them covering it in chocolate really adds anything to the whole cheesecake eating experience. You have a cheesecake, you have a spoon. End of story, right?

I haven't looked at any of the other DB's creations, but past experience tells me there will be some mighty fine lookin' cheesecake pops out there. Check them out here at the Daring Bakers Blogroll.

  5. Love your vase of pops, very fun!

And I agree, the whole act of putting them on sticks was tedious and in the end it was just cheesecake, but look at how fun they are! It's really all about the presentation this month.

  13. I agree with everyone - the buttercream flowers were stunning! So cute...and worth it for the yummy and impressive treat, don't you think?

  14. i completely agree with you! Yeah they're yummy but I didn't think it added anything to the cheesecake experience. In fact, I like my cheesecake better with more graham cracker and less chocolate. Yours look really beautiful with the flowers.

  23. LOL, yes, perhaps the "piercing" was a bit over the top but as they say, "life imitates art" or in this case vice versa. Speaking of art, that first photo, of the 3 pops in a vase is really gorgeous. Great work!!

  24. Very cute idea! I still have half a cheesecake in the refer. I'll be dipping more tonight and giving them away. I've made alot, I mean alot of people happy!

  28. The little daisies certainly are cute!

I agree that they are perhaps a bit too cutesy, but I also have to say that I am enjoying having a nice supply of pops to snack on.

  29. I love your idea of the buttercream frosting! I am giving my daughter-in-law a baby shower this summer and will use your idea for the pops using white chocolate. Thanks!

  30. Do you have an extra spoon? Cause as cute as these were (and tasty), I'm with you, lets just dig in and enjoy!

  31. I love the piping detail!

Heh, yeah, that's why I cut the recipe in half. I'd probably have gone a bit insane if I had do decorate an entire batch!

  32. It was a bit labor intensive, so I think I'd reserve it for a special party or occasion. But they are just so cute! The flower ones are sooo cute!

  33. The flower ones really are adorable. Are they in a vase in that first picture? It sort of looks like a 3 headed mushroom with flowers on the caps...very cute though!! So a weird mutated fungus but in a good way... :)

I agree with your assessment of th project 100%.

  34. they are all beautiful and i esp love the brown on white/white on brown ones. great job!

  35. absolutely - expected it to come out like ice cream - smooth and creamy and did I mention I expected it to be smooth? I was flabberghasted - - and while it said NOWHERE in the directions to roll it it my hands I just KNEW I had to if I wanted them to be cute. cute with a C. YOURS are A for Adorable...

I cheated with a few of them and didn't chocolate them (I don't care for it) and just rolled them in crushed graham crackers... YUM.
    Sh
    don't tell anyone though!

  41. oh my gosh~ you are just way too freaking funny. I can't believe you said it out loud... you questioned a recipe's merits. Beware the Daring Baker backlash, heh. I have to say tho, the buttercream flowers would have made a great kid's birthday treat. I know my monkey would have totally digged that.

  42. I love the little ones with the buttercream flowers on top. So cute! I think I need to take myself to the next level with the next challenge and make whatever we are baking more visually appealing.

  46. hi! Love the decorations, truly inspired! I totally agree with you about the whole concept of this recipe being really weird! Why in the world would you want to squash up a perfectly baked cheesecake and squeeze them into balls? =P but it was really fun to have an excuse to mash them up anyways! Wouldn't dream of doing it otherwise, haha

  47. Thanks for stopping by... I cannot wait to check out your blog! I adore bento and cute food!

Your pops turned out so cute! Love the flowers. We made half batches and that was MUCH easier to manage. I am not sure what I would have done with more, ya know, besides eat them.

  48. Your pops definitely deserve the P for precious!

  49. That is something I have not seen anywhere!! Very creative, very cute :)

  50. So pretty! I'm sure everyone else already said this, but the flower ones are so cute.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Your pops are really cute! I think you're right about them not needing the stick - how about bon bons?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Your piped flowers are a great way to decorate the pops! Great idea, and great job!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Piped flowers? Whoa!
    They look great.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love your flowers they are so pretty! Like how you made the pops smaller! I wish we had done that but I would have kept popping them in my mouth! Great job.

  57. The flowers are great. Hmmm, I don't know, chocolate covered cheesecake is definitely a winner in my books!

  58. I love your flowery pops! And I can agree with you about taking a perfectly good cheesecake and mushing it into a ball. I think I will make the cheesecake again and leave it intact.

  60. What beautiful "flowers". Very creative!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, tedious is definitely a word I'd use to describe this. :) I still have 20 more pops in my freezer awaiting dipping, but I couldn't handle any more dipping. Yours are gorgeous and I think buttercream is a beautiful thing.

  62. I love the flower ones and they look really yummy! Good idea about lying them down instead of sticking up...I didn't think of that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The flowers are really cute. I agree, I'm not sure they needed to be made into pops, but I might make the cheesecake recipe again.

    ReplyDelete
  64. oh, goodness. These are so yummy!! Thanks for your comment on my blog...I am new here and I love the encouragement!! Such a great group! I love it. I cannot wait to make myself some more of these, forget sharing!!!

  65. The lovely flower cheesecake pops are the standard I would like to get to. They are beautiful. Yes, mine bombed, but I think I'll try again, with half the quantities. I am pretty sure the problem was one lurking non-fat cheesecake block amongst the five; it made it watery.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wonderful flowers with the buttercream . . . and your dark and white chocolate are wow!
Dropped off the stick and fell in your mouth ummm interesting. I really liked these as just the right serving size.

    ReplyDelete
  67. These ARE so cute :) You did a great job on making the pops. BTW I love the name of your blog.

  68. gorgeous little (or big) pops! love the buttercream flowers on top!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Lovely flowers on the pops; I agree about leaving a cheesecake as is, personally, I prefer it that way. Thankfully, I halved the recipe and still had plenty too!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Love the buttercream flowers! Very cute pops, indeed :)

  71. The flower ones are super cute. :)

  72. Even though these were not your cup of tea (your slice of cheesecake?), you made them really cute. I've enjoyed seeing everyone's decorating ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Precious and tedious... yeah, that about sums it up. Your floral take is also a for adorable.
